Pressure Sensitive Film - Fuji Prescale Film
Film for Semi Quantitative Measurement of Static or Dynamic Pressure Fields

Applications
These pressure measurement films from Fuji are based on the principle of micro encapsulated colour, which break by reaching the necessary level of pressure. Depending of the pressure a few or more capsules break and show a colour shape on the colour-developing layer. The colour intensity is proportional to the intensity of the pressure at this location.

With this unique product, manufacturers from a wide variety of fields can improve quality, increase productivity and reduce cost of mass production items, as well as trouble shooting by analysing problems in the production process.
The pressure sensitive films can be used for static and for dynamic processes as well. As an example the film can be used to check the right pressure distribution for a cylinder gasket on the engine cylinder head. The film is placed above or below the gasket, and then the head is screwed on. After the head is screwed down again you can easily find out whether the gasket is tightening or not.

Beside static applications you also can use these films for high dynamic processes with pressure pulses in the range of microseconds. We have measured a complete shock wave distribution in a kidney stone lithotripter with these films. The following fig. shows the pressure field on the axis of a focusing shock wave mirror. In this case we have used film of 500 – 1300 bar. It is interesting to see that the pressure focus is behind the geometrical one due to the non-linear shock wave behaviour. Together with e.g. an Schlierenoptic you get a 3-dimensional impression of the complete pressure field.
Further dynamic applications could be hits of cavitation bubble liquid jets or to measure the shock wave location on an aircraft wing. Unlimited applications in static and dynamic processes can be easily visualized with these films.

The Fuji Prescale films are available for 7 different pressure ranges from 0.5 to 3000 bars. Within the individual range the pressure distribution is proportional to the colour intensity and can be compared with samples for measurements. For more exact readings a densitometer is available as well.
The films will be delivered 270 mm wide and on rolls from 3 to 12 m depending on the type. As a test sample we also offer you samples from 1 to 2 m.
